AFRIQIYAH_A340_5A-ONE_JFK_0909_jP_small.jpgI never shoot backlit photos unless there is some significant historical or other value. On board this Afriqiyah A340 is Momar Kaddafi

AIRFRANCECARGO_747-200F_F-GPAN_JFK_1090_JP_small.jpg
AIRFRANCECARGO_747-200F_F-GPAN_JFK_1090_JP_small.jpgThis is not a high quality photo but a historical one. It was photographed on Ektachrome slide film and processed at the local drug store, but held up well for 22 years, even with lots of dust and scratches that I cleaned up. 9 years after I photographed F-GPAN, it had a pretty nasty end-of-life experience in Chennai, India. Google F-GPAN to read the story of how it was written off

B24_CLT_0512_JP_small.jpg
B24_CLT_0512_JP_small.jpgAmazing timing! 16 passengers on board walking away from the airplane! I just got to the airport with Andrew (my son), I get out of the car- and this is what I see! The smoke is still there as this historical B-24 broke it's nose gear and skidded down the runway until it stopped at this location
KOREAN_A380_HL7612_JFK_0811_JP.jpg
KOREAN_A380_HL7612_JFK_0811_JP.jpgHere she is, first Korean A380 arrival on U.S. soil. Unfortunately, the weather was not very cooperative, nor was the arrival time (12pm in August- as bad as it gets for sun angles), however, given the historical nature of the photo, any timing or natual shortcomings are all forgiven...
DELTA_WORLDPORT_JFK_0811_JP.jpg
DELTA_WORLDPORT_JFK_0811_JP.jpgSoon to be an historical photo, the original Pan Am Worldport shown here was built in 1960. By 2012/13, the structure, along with the adjoining concourse will unfortunately be knocked down to create ramp space as Delta shifts most ops to Terminal 4
IMG_3294.jpg
IMG_3294.jpgNot the best time of the day for light angles as the sun is straight up during midday, but historical nonetheless as the first A380 ever touches down at MIA!
IMG_3305.jpg
IMG_3305.jpgLufthansa A380 receives the water canon salute as it taxis to gate J17. I tacked on the historical ID I received on this great and historical day for Miami International Airport
lufthansaA380D-AIMBJFK0211.jpg
lufthansaA380D-AIMBJFK0211.jpgAwful weather but historical photo nontheless. First ever Lufthansa A380 landing at JFK. Ship D-AIME was supposed to operate the flight but due to delay in delivery, D-AIMB operated the flight

7_dc7FLLrwy.jpgFlying up the coast at 500 feet, it's a bit hard to see but if you look closely, you can see one of FLL's runways directly to the left of the airplane
5_dc7insideduringflight.jpg
5_dc7insideduringflight.jpgView of the DC7's cabin in flight. As you can see, head room is not an issue. Note that the seats are not original (they were taken from a DC9), and when in service with Eastern, there were luggage racks (not bins, racks)
4_dc7flightmap.jpg
4_dc7flightmap.jpgThis nice route map is installed in the bulkhead of the cabin, it denotes the original routes the DC7 flew back in the late 50's and through the 60's
3a_dc7shadow.jpg
3a_dc7shadow.jpgLovely view from the DC7 as the flight heads south at 500 feet along the coastline. Note the DC7's shadow in the water below..
3_dc7cockpitinflight.jpg
3_dc7cockpitinflight.jpgI didn't really have a chance to take quality cockpit photos so I snapped off this quick one. Note that the captain and co-pilot are a father and son duo. I am told that the number of pilots that can captain a DC7 these days numbers in the single digits. Most of them have unfortunately perished
1B_dc7southofsouthbeach.jpg
1B_dc7southofsouthbeach.jpgThe turn south of Miami begins as the DC7's shadow is seen in the beautiful water below
