VARIG_747-300_PP-VQB_JFK_1195_JP_small.jpgHere is why I wish I bit the bullet and bought better equipment in the early 90's when I started getting serious about aviation photography (although in my early 20's it was hard to justify spending big $$ on a lens). Here is a great 4L departure shot at JFK- and the slide is soft because I was using sub-par lenses. You live and learn...

JAL_747-400_JA8076_JFK_0209_JP.jpgIn order to appreciate this photo, you have to picture the kind of temperature where if you're standing outside without gloves on, your fingers start to freeze within 20 seconds. LAN-CARGO_767-300F_UIO_1209jp.jpgQuito weather is very, very tricky. It can be totally cloudy and 5 minutes later the sun starts popping out, you just have to hope that out of 5 days you get 2-3 sunny ones!

vgair330OO-SFQ802.jpgView in the cockpit of A330-200 at Flight level 410 (41,000 feet), having recently departed JFK's runway 13R, routing JFK-BRU. Leaving the USA in the evening and watching the sun set behind you is easy on the eyes, however, when the sun comes up again somewhere over the Atlantic it starts to get pretty uncomfortable in the cockpit, sun visors are a must.

aloha732MAR01n819alOGG.jpgThis Kodachrome slide was so difficult to scan because it's so contrasty, I just could not get the colors and light right so I decided that it's better to share as a black and white than not to share at all. I cannot describe the beauty that one sees on the Island of Maui, it's just incredible and I would say the most beautiful place I've been to on Earth. Every so often if you stare at the water a whale tail would come up for a second or so, just incredible..
