ATLASAIR_747-8F_N855GT_MIA_0217_4_JP_small1.jpgAtlas Air 747-8F departs Miami's runway 9 at 130AM (Photography started at 7AM the day before). The white marks below the cockpit windows is not the airplane crying- it's the moon shining bright

JFK_0501_JP_TAKE1_small.jpgLook at those beautiful towers on the left....May 2001- taken on slide and too difficult to color correct so made it black and white. Comair CRJ200 makes the turn at T3 ramp and when that occurred the VSR (vehicle service road) had to be temporarily closed for obvious reasons by either airport police or airport operations on either side

AIRAFRIQUE_A300-600R_TU-TAI_JFK_0797_JP_MAIN_small.jpgKodachrome 64 slide
This slide was so difficult to color correct I had to almost black and white the photo to make it useful

NORTHWEST_DC10_N153US_LAX_0301_jP_TAKE1_small.jpgThe slide was too difficult to color correct so made it a black and white background and part of the Aviationart files

RENOAIR_MD80_N872RA_SAN_0798_JP_small2.jpgI made this photo black and white because the slide scan was so bad in color, at least this way I can still share it

VARIG_747-300_PP-VOB_JFK_1098_JP_small.jpgI'm sorry that the watermark is so awful on white fuselages

JAL_MD11_JA8584_LAX_0400_JP_small.jpgSORRY THAT THE WATERMARK IS ESPECIALLY IRRITATING AGAINST WHITE BACKGROUND!

AMERICAN_MD87_N751RA_LAX_0400_JP_small.jpgAnother very difficult to process/color correct slide. This MD87 has two unusual features: it has the white color scheme, in addition to it being an MD87, a type which American never originally operated, it was acquired when Reno Air was merged into the American brand

DELTA_757-300_LAX_1109_ART_JP_small.jpgOn this aviation art piece I made everything black and white except the airplane

FINEAIR_DC8_N7046H_MIA_0197_JP_small.jpgFine Air was kind enough to provide me with unrestricted access with one of their senior managers around their entire facility at MIA including going inside these old workhorse DC8's and also doing some night photography from their hangar roof. I had to make this photo black and white because the original Kodachrome slide is a bit too green- slide film and indoor light with no flash are a bad combination, so better to see it black and white than with an ugly green cast

AIRCHINA_747SP_JFK_0691_JP_MAIN_BW_small.jpgOne of the very special photos from the collection. Photographed from the parking deck of the old Pan Am Worldport is an Air China 747SP with some Pan Am airplanes in the background, but most importantly, the beautiful and sorely missed World Trade Center is visible as I chose to black and white the entire photo except the WTC. The photo was taken 10 years and 3 months before 9/11 and during this holiday season, a difficult one, we still must- never forget...

QANTAS_707_N707JT_LAX_1111G_JP_small.jpgIn this photo I once again made everything but the airplane black and white to give it that slight "vintage" feel. Note the BOEING building on the right- quite appropriate for this beautiful Boeing 707 owned by John Travolta

DHL_767-200F_JFK_0612_JP_.jpgAbsolutely incredible what technology we have today my friends. I shot this one at 11PM, while the airplane was taxiing at normal speed on taxiway Alpha (headed for 4L departure), at 8000 ISO (ASA) and it came out like this. 10 Years ago I would have told you this is simply not possible. Below are the specs:
70-200mm @ 125mm 1/20 sec, f/2.8 Mode: Tv Metering: Evaluative Exp comp: -1/3 ISO: 8000 AF mode: One-shot AF Drive: Continuous (high): frame 1 White balance: Auto

aeopostal727N79749MIA0106.jpgPhotographed departing MIA with the last useable light, this Aeropostal 727, previously with Continental as witnessed by the registration is enroute to Caracas, Venezuela. In the background, the red white and blue 757 devoid of titles was previously used by the John Kerry presidential campaign

mexicana_A319_LAX_0210jp.jpgTough shot to process, given the black nose and tail with white middle, but in the end it came out nice

IFLCONVAIR_BWCOLOR_MIA0410.jpgI made a significant change to this photo; I left the airplanes in color but changed everything else in the photo to black and white. I chose to do this because here is a propeller airplane from the 1940's, and behind it is an ultra-modern propeller driven airplane from the 90's, so the contrast in airplanes begs for contrast with the airplanes and their environment in this photo. I know that some of you will really love this!

|

cathay7440208lax.jpgI present this photo to you without much touching up other than taking out the harsh orange lighting and making it a softer white. Photo is taken in typical marine layer conditions at night

aloha732MAR01n819alOGG.jpgThis Kodachrome slide was so difficult to scan because it's so contrasty, I just could not get the colors and light right so I decided that it's better to share as a black and white than not to share at all. I cannot describe the beauty that one sees on the Island of Maui, it's just incredible and I would say the most beautiful place I've been to on Earth. Every so often if you stare at the water a whale tail would come up for a second or so, just incredible..
